A 10th level arcane spell, used by Talmuq to successfully purge the souls inhabiting Ibik, who had become a pre-judgment demigod. The spell was last discovered by Zartax, who used it to remove the Great Fog from Deneshae.

Dispel Divine Essence

[edit | edit source]

10th level, abjuration

Casting time: 1 hour

Range: 300ft

Components: V, S, M (a censure or holy item of the god who created the effect, filled with or connected to the caster’s soul and worth 1,000gp, which the spell consumes)

Choose one celestial or fiend creature, one object, or one effect in the Material Plane, known or thought to be created by a god. If a creature, it must roll a Wisdom saving throw equal to 10 + the CR of the creature or be dispelled, evaporating into absolute nothingness. If an object or effect, the object loses its divine essence, becoming a normal, mundane object. An effect is dispelled entirely.

When casting the spell, the caster’s soul must inhabit or be connected to the material component, such that it fuels the spell itself. The caster must roll a DC 30 Constitution saving throw at the end of the spell’s casting time. On a success, the caster is reduced to 1 hit point and suffers 5 points of exhaustion. On a failure, the caster dies and the soul is released.
